So You Want to Try 21 Day Fix Extreme?

No carbs? One hour exercise programs? Gym memberships? Expensive meal plans? NONE of these things make me excited about starting a weight loss journey! After being a Beachbody fan for a few years, I recently discovered one of their programs -21 day fix extreme- and decided to give it a try. My start date is set for November 1. I have decided to blog this experience, starting with this pre 21 day fix post to share my thoughts about it & some of the research I've done.

The lowdown

First, I have struggled with my weight for at least 7 years. When I was younger my ultimate goal was to be skinny. I didn't want to own anything bigger than a size 3. HAHA!! That is just TOO hilarious now, after having two children and being introduced into the real world. I would say my goal right now is just to be a healthier version of what I am. New habits, better choices, and smarter eating. My 28th birthday is coming up right after Thanksgiving -yikes. I figured the 21 day fix fit perfectly with that timeline.

My friend Kim started this program a few months ago and is who introduced me to this program. I have already completed P90x, Cize, and Insanity before with great success so, I'm always up for a new Beachbody workout. The basic break down of 21 day fix is simple fitness and simple eating. Ok, I'm listening.... 21 days (7 days a week) of 30 min workouts coupled with the 21 day fix eating plan that has you use colored containers to help with your portion control.

Here are the seven 30 min workouts you will be doing:
    • Plyo Fix
    • Upper Fix
    • Lower Fix
    • Pilates Fix
    • Cardio Fix
    • Yoga Fix
    • Dirty 30

Here is the breakdown of the portion containers:
  • One Green—Vegetables
  • One Purple—Fruit
  • One Red—Protein
  • One Yellow—Carbohydrates
  • One Blue—Healthy Fats and Cheese
  • 2 Orange—Seeds and Oils

Calorie Intake

Here is the basic caloric calculation for you to get an idea of how much food you get:
⇒ Take your current weight in pounds and multiply by 11 = your baseline calorie number.
⇒ Take your baseline calorie number and add 400 (calorie burn from the 21 Day Fix workouts) = this is your caloric need.
⇒ Take your caloric need and subtract 750 (this is the calorie deficit) = This equals your target calories.
Your target calories then gets matched to the 21 Day Fix provided calorie chart. The chart then tells you how many of each the containers you get per day. Easy enough!

Here is a great cheat sheet from Former Chubby Guy.

First, I started looking up articles, reviews and recieps. I wanted to make sure this was something I could actually do. I found a ton of great articles on Pinterest!

One thing recommended with the program is Shakeology, which is a protein powder/meal replacement shake. I have tried it before and it is very, very good! Seriously, best tasting protein shake I have ever had, not to mention how good it is for you. BUT, it is very expensive and I didn't think that was necessary, so I did some research on protein powders and ended up going with Orgain Organic protein in hocolate fudge. I purchased this from Sprouts for $27 because I had a coupon, but normally it is $45.99. I also heard they sell this at Costco. I also purchased a shaker bottle from Wal Mart, so I don't have to drag my blender out everyday, plus it's pink so that pretty much means I needed it.

Next, I printed out a workout schedule, a food tracker and a chart to track my measurements. I found these on My Crazy Good Life. She also has planner stickers you can print out. I wanted to keep these separate from my planner, so I skipped out on those.

Finally, after pinning all the yummy recipes I wanted to try, I sat down on the couch with a note book and planned my first weeks meal. Basically pick a breakfast, lunch dinner and snack and make sure they fit with your container requirements. From there I made a shopping list of all the ingredients we didn't already have & went shopping.

This is one of the few times I haven't jumped into something too soon. I've done my research and I have everything I need (and more...that pink cup) to be successful. I'm excited to start and to share and blog my experience. Not promising before and after pics, but I will definitely be reviewing the program and my experience. T-minus 4 days!!
